My Booze Heck: The Next Episode.
Alright?
This time last year, I was a month in to my booze abstinence journey.
For me, Stoptober, or any similar abstinence months haven’t really worked. Dry January usually lasted until the first weekend, when the lure of a warm pub and convivially boozed up chats became irresistible against the backdrop of the dreary post-Christmas period.
Last October came, and with Christmas and New Year looming into view, friends starting asking what I intended to do over the festive period. As I saw it, I had three choices:
1: Continue on the “journey”, and experience it booze free since I was about 15.
2: Have a couple here and there, as it’s Christmas.
3: Go all in. The “Fuck it, it’s Christmas” approach.
Reader, I chose option 1. I’ve never been a “have a couple” type, which influenced my decision on option 3. My tolerance would’ve been reduced, and I don’t think it would’ve been good for me.
With that time of the year approaching, I’m interested in talking to people again about their relationship with alcohol, on the 13th November. As previously, life coach Alex Hyde will give a presentation, this time on Self Talk.
Some of you will be into Stoptober by now; if you are, I hope you’re getting something out of it, wish you well and I hope to speak to you about the experience. Some will be thinking about what to do over the festive season, and I hope to discuss that with you too.
13th November. 7-9pm.
Moseley Hive.
